tiptone10-18-2006, 09:17 PMI got a box of Torano Signature Robustos in last week and they came in an attractive black box. When I opened the box there was a Humidipak inside branded by Torano that read:
"Fresh from the farm.
We have included this 2-way humidity control pack, made by Humidipak, to ensure you experience each Torano cigar at the peak of flavor and freshness. Enjoy."
It's marked at the bottom as a 69% unit. This was a welcome surprise, anyone else get a box with a Humidipak inside?

I take them out before I put the boxes in the humidor. They could over - humidify the cigars in the humidor.
These are great for use while cigars are traveling.

Not sure if Fuente is using the same one that Torano is but the Torano-branded Humidipak in the box was clearly labeled as 2-way humidification device so I would think there is very little danger of over humidification.
I stuck it in a ziploc with a water pillow that came in a cigar.com order (also nice touch) that I'll use for any packages that will be in the mail for a while.

The one that comes in the calibration paks says it's good for a few months.

I've had the one mentioned in the first post sealed in a mason jar since I got it, which is almost four months now and it's still fine. I actually just checked on it because I'm planning on sending it out in a package on Friday.
So if you put it somewhere sealed up it looks like they'll keep indefinitely. On the other hand, I accidentally left one on top of the humidor over night once and it was crunchy the next morning.

In the sealed AF humidi pack, they say it should be good for up to 6 months. As others have mentioned, I store extras in an a freezer zip lock, but I will also use one of the old sponges from my frist humi to "recharge" the packs ocasionally (just pop the sponge in the bag to)

They start to harden when it's near the end of usefullness. They work great in cigar caddys.
schnell98702-28-2007, 04:05 PMI also remove them and save them (in double zip-lock bags). They last quite a long time (I would imagine the estimated useful life assumes that they are constantly being tapped to supply humidity to the environment). They are useful when sending sticks to others and when traveling (just stick a pack in with a few 'gars inside zip-lock bags and a protective hard case).
One note to be careful of...don't mix different level humidity units together...I had placed a few 65% packs in a humidor along with several 70% humiditubes...the 65% packs absorbed the extra humidity (like they should) and then one of them burst open (must have saturated the 65% pack past its capacity).

IMHO unless you are expecting these cigars to be in transit for a long time ,
I don't think I would even use it. If the smokes ar ziploc'd and have been properly store up to that point. A few days travel should be fine. I have had
cigars ruined by Someone trying to keep them humidified while shipping.

hmm, that's a good point. these could go anywhere from 2-day to 4-days. i guess i could've just sent them without the AF humidipak, but it's already gone out.
hopefully, they don't get ruined....
